Complications in hospitalized patients with SARS-CoV2 infection

OBJECTIVES: The present study aimed to assess the prevalence of complications during hospitalization in patients diagnosed with COVID-19, as well association mortality and prognosis. METHODS: A retrospective cohort involved 306 admitted a COVID ward ICU aged 18 years or older confirmed SARS-CoV2 infection Brazilian Tertiary Hospital. Demographic, clinical, biochemical, radiological outcome data were collected from patients' charts. RESULTS: According analyzed hospitalization, 230 (75.2%) developed complications, 281 (91.8%) had comorbidities 169 (55.2%) died. There are no differences regarding sex patients. most prevalent complication was ventilator-associated pneumonia, 130 (42.5%) patients, followed by acute kidney injury chronic disease requiring hemodialysis, presented 100 (32.7%) calculation relative risk death according occurrence showed p<0.0001 for renal failure, orotracheal intubation p=0.0434 myocardial infarction. CONCLUSION: COVID-19 is significant, showing an increase relation age, length hospital stay complications. Prevention, early diagnosis appropriate treatment essential reduce rate SARS-CoV-2 infection.
